Sprinkling, irrigation - Planning a garden irrigation system
In the planning and installation guide for a sprinkler system or irrigation system, you will find all the planning steps to ensure that your project is a success and that you can enjoy your irrigation system for a long time.
The sprinkler irrigation system uses artificial rain (irrigation, sprinkling) to ensure that your lawns are lush and green and supplies plants that require more water
.Before breaking ground
Before breaking ground, the available connected load must first be correctly determined. If the system is to be supplied with fresh water and your starting point is not directly at the beginning of your domestic water distribution with pressure gauge, but at a distance, such as in the garage or a garden shed, then it is imperative to know the existing operating pressure and the amount of water available so that your planned irrigation system functions to your complete satisfaction.
formula for the pipe diameter for your sprinkler system, sprinkling, irrigation
Ideal is a supply to the starting point/distributor/valve shaft with a PE pipe in 32mm, the individual circuits are designed with a PE pipe diameter of 25mm. A PE pipe with a diameter of 20 mm is also sufficient for a single consumer (sprinkling, irrigation, extraction point).
What water pressure in bar does the extraction source supply (tap, garden pump connection external e.g. garage, garden shed)?
If the water pressure is higher than 3.5 bar, you will need a pressure reducer, as otherwise your irrigation components may be damaged. Please note that even when using a pump that achieves a continuous pressure of 3.5 bar, pressure peaks above this value (water hammer) can be reached. Please also note that long distances, many bends, angles etc. reduce the pressure and the sprinklers at the end of the line achieve too little water pressure and therefore cannot achieve full output. If more consumers are required within the water network during the irrigation phase, this can also have a negative effect on the performance of your irrigation system. Divide your irrigation line into sectors to achieve a better result; this will also help you if different areas of your garden require different amounts of water.
Create ground plan sketch for irrigation
Make a true-to-scale sketch (e.g. 1:100) of your property including building and property boundary and now draw in the following areas:
- Areas that are to be irrigated with pop-up sprinklers
- Areas that are to be supplied with drip or micro irrigation
- Areas that must not get wet during irrigation (e.g. neighbouring property, house wall, paths)
