PVC-U reductions
PVC-U reduction ring, reduction sockets, reduction coupler
All these designations have one objective: a reduction in diameter, either in a glued connection or in a threaded piece. Not every desired reduction can be achieved with just one fitting. This is the case when large dimensional differences are desired over the shortest possible distance.
In addition to the pure reducing fittings, there are also 90° reducing elbows or Reduced T-pieces , which also reduce. It is worth spending a little more time browsing the individual categories here.PVC-U reducing ring, short reduction, male socket x female socket
A PVC-U reducing ring reduces the diameter over a short distance. A PVC-U reducing ring is always glued into an adhesive socket and a pipe or hose nozzle or any other fitting with a suitable male socket size (external dimension) is glued into the inner diameter.
The reduction is abrupt due to the design, i.e. the transition to the smaller dimension is not smooth. This should be considered if a reduction of two widely spaced sizes is desired.
PVC-U reducing ring Application
The reducing ring is glued into a glued socket and reduces the diameter.
In the example, you can see a 50mm glued socket and a 50/20mm reducing ring. You can now continue with a pipe A-ø 20mm or also, for example, glue in a 20mm hose nozzle. It is also possible to glue another reducing ring into a reducing ring to achieve an even greater reduction.
PVC-U reducing rings can be glued into any socket, i.e. if you have an elbow with a double-sided glued socket, you can also reduce a glued socket of the elbow here.
The most common PVC reducing rings are the sizes 110/50mm, 63/50mm or 32/25mm. A pipe can only be connected to and reduced using the integral glue socket with a reducing ring.
Reducing rings should be avoided in systems with higher pressures. The abrupt stop of the flowing medium causes turbulence or can cause a water hammer. In this case, a reduction using a reducing ring is the "gentler" alternative.
PVC-U Reducing socket Solvent female/male socket x female socket
The PVC-U reducing socket has a longer design and thus reduces more smoothly. The reducing sockets offered in our online shop PVC-Welt.de partly even have three usable sizes. On the larger side, it is possible to glue a pipe (male socket) into the inner dimension (female socket), but it is also possible to use the outer dimension (male socket) and glue the reducing sleeve into an adhesive sleeve. On the reduced side, the inner dimension (female socket) must always be used. A pipe (connecting piece), hose nozzle or any other fitting with a suitable connecting piece dimension can be glued in here.
Example of use: Reducing sleeve 40/50 x 25mm
Left: You reduce a pipe A-ø 40mm to a pipe A-ø 25mm
Right: You reduce a socket I-ø 50mm to a pipe A-ø 25mm
PVC-U Reducing ring Solvent socket x female thread
We offer two versions of PVC-U reducing rings. Version A is glued into a glued socket. The octagon remains outside the glued socket and is used as a fixing device with a spanner.
PVC-U reducing ring version B is glued into an adhesive sleeve and disappears completely into the adhesive sleeve.
The difference between the reducing rings
Right Version A: the reducer is glued into the fitting, the octagon remains in front of the fitting and serves as a counter-wrench during assembly
Left version B: the reducer ring is glued completely into the sleeve, another fitting with a male thread can be placed directly on the sleeve
PVC-U reducing socket 2 female threads
This PVC-U fitting can be used to connect two different external threads. If it is necessary to connect larger dimensional leaps, the internal thread can also be reduced using a reducing ring with internal and external thread. The thread is sealed with Teflon tape or a similar material.

PVC-U Reducing nipple 2 male threads
A PVC-U nipple made of hard PVC is used to connect internal threads with different nominal diameters. The threads are not self-sealing and are sealed with Teflon tape or similar.
When sealing with Teflon tape, there is no rule of thumb for how many layers of Teflon tape should be applied to the thread, as this depends on the type of application, the tension of the Teflon tape during application and, ultimately, on the existing gap between the threaded fittings and the thickness of the Teflon tape.
After successfully sealing a few threaded connections, you will get a feel for how many layers of Teflon tape are needed. No master has yet fallen from the sky. Please refer to our detailed written instructions or tutorial videos. You will always find instructions for use here that explain a topic, a certain process or a function.
PVC-U Reducing ring male-x-female thread
An existing internal thread is reduced to the size of the internal thread with this reducing ring. The external octagon remains outside the existing internal thread and thus extends the existing internal thread.
If you cannot see which thread is present on your fitting, we have provided the metric conversion for all stored thread sizes in our webshop PVC-Welt.de for better orientation. However, please note the difference in dimension between the measurement of an external thread compared to an identical internal thread.
